Preview / 2012 Nissan Note Receives Modest Updates for New Model YearPresented in Europe in March of 2006, the Note is Nissan's offering in the popular mini-MPV segment (think Opel Meriva). In Britain alone, the Note has sold more than 100,000 units while total production at Nissan's Sunderland plant in UK has reached 427,985 vehicles since its introduction. While there's no replacement planned for this year, Nissan has polished up the Note for 2012 with a new trim level and select styling and equipment upgrades on certain grades. For starters, the Acenta model gets new ‘diamond cut' two-tone 16-inch alloy wheels that replace the previous 15 inchers, along with chrome-effect door mirror covers and front fog light surrounds. Inside, you'll find different seat fabrics with blue stitching while climate control, automatic headlights and rain-sensitive wipers all now come as standard. The new N-TEC+ grade level is based on the Acenta but adds rear parking sensors, tinted rear windows and a touch-screen ‘Connect' satellite navigation system with built in CD/radio, iPod gateway, Aux-in, USB connection and Bluetooth phone connection. For 2012, the Note continues with the same engine line-up that includes the 1.4-liter and 1.6-liter petrol units and the 1.5-liter dCi diesel that returns a combined economy figure of 67.3mpg UK (56mpg US) with CO2 emissions of 110g/km. In the United Kingdom, prices for the 2012 Note start at £11,200 for the Visia, £13,000 for the Acenta and £13,500 for the new N-TEC+, with sales to begin early next month. |

As I came up fast over the crest just before the sharp right-hander, I felt the race car begin to understeer away from me. "No worries," I thought, forgetting what exactly I was driving, "I'll just get on the power and get it straightened out." A tank-slapper later I was facing the other direction on the edge of the grass. I had just spun out on my first lap ever in a race car. A front-drive Kia Rio B-Spec race car, at that.
